Workshop at CNCA Annual Meeting – 6/18/2025

On June 18th 2025, the City CDR Initiative gave a workshop on ‘Pioneering Urban Carbon Removal for a Positive Living Environment’ at the Annual Meeting of the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA) in Glasgow. CNCA is a supporting partner in the Initiative.

The workshop focused on identifying critical levers and activation mechanisms to unlock city-led CDR at scale. It zoomed in on the mechanisms and intervention opportunities that can empower cities as they integrate CDR in their Climate Action Plans.

Over 20 CNCA cities—including Minneapolis, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Curitiba, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, Glasgow, London, New York City, and Sydney—came together with CNCA staff and invited experts to reflect on how CDR fits into urban climate strategies.

The workshop was part of the City CDR Initiative ongoing effort to baseline the opportunity of CDR in and by cities. Besides CNCA itself, 7 CNCA member cities support the Initiative by providing data on governance, policy, regulation, systems and infrastructure.
