Workshop at NetZeroCities – 5/7/2025

On 7 May 2025, our consortium partner South Pole hosted a workshop session in Vilnius on ‘Closing the Net-Zero Gap: Carbon Removal and BECCS in Cities’ in the context of the EU’s Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission conference organized by NetZeroCitiesEU.

The Cities Mission is a leading public sector effort to unlock this opportunity. It aims to deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030 and ensure that these cities act as experimentation and innovation hubs to enable all European cities to follow suit by 2050.

The workshop convened over 20 EU Mission Cities and partners to explore the six possible roles for cities in the CDR stakeholder ecosystem that the City CDR Initiative has identified – Strategizer, Regulator, Service Provider, Innovator, Funder, Convener.
